ENG - Lake Neves ( (Neves-Stausee or Neveser See in German) is an artificial lake located at the bottom and top of the Selva dei Molini valley, a side valley of the Valle Aurina, in Südtirol / South Tyrol. To reach it, from Bruneck/Brunico you must continue in the direction of Valle Aurina and Mühlen and then turn left into Valle di Selva dei Molini. After passing the beautiful little village of Selva dei Molini, the road begins to climb until you reach the village of Lappago di Sopra, which is located at 1460 m, and a few metres after passing it, you will come to the entrance gate to the lake. Once past this, you walk along the last section of a steep, narrow road (which is closed in winter and normally reopens in May) that leads you to a large free car park by the lake. If you are more of a daredevil, the lake can also be reached on foot from Lappago in about an hour. Lake Neves is located at an altitude of 1,860 m, features a 94.66 m high dam, the highest in South Tyrol, and is surrounded by three of the highest peaks in the Zillertal Alps. 

ITA - Il Lago di Neves (  (Neves-Stausee o Neveser See in tedesco )  è un lago artificiale che si trova in fondo e in cima alla valle di Selva dei Molini, una valle laterale della Valle Aurina, in Südtirol / Alto Adige. Per raggiungerlo, da Brunico bisogna proseguire in direzione Valle Aurina e Mühlen e poi girare a sinistra in Valle di Selva dei Molini. Superato il bellissimo paesino di Selva dei Molini, la strada inizia a salire fino a raggiungere il paese di Lappago di Sopra che si trova a 1460 m, e pochi metri dopo averlo superato si incontra il casello d’ingresso al lago. Una volta superato, si percorre l’ultimo tratto di una ripida e stretta strada a senso alternato ( che rimane chiusa in inverno e normalmente viene riaperta a maggio ) che vi porta a un ampio parcheggio gratuito in riva al lago. Se invece siete più temerari, il lago è raggiungibile anche a piedi da Lappago in circa un’oretta. Il Lago di Neves si trova ad un’altitudine di 1.860 m, è caratterizzato da una diga di 94,66 metri, la più alta dell’Alto Adige, ed è circondato da tre delle vette più alte delle Alpi dello Zillertal.

ENG - A starting point for many high mountain hikes, Lake Neves offers trails of all difficulties: I particularly recommend the loop trail that goes all the way around the lake. Suitable for everyone, it is very scenic and also passes above the dam where you have a magnificent 360° view (but be careful if you suffer from vertigo). Also a must are the two ‘malghe’ (shepherd’s huts) on the east and west banks, the Untermaureralm and the Nevesalm, where, surrounded by the beauty of the place and the kindness of the staff, you can enjoy typical products and wonderful lunches.

ITA - Punto di partenza di moltissime escursioni in alta montagna, il Lago di Neves offre sentieri di tutte le difficoltà: suggerisco di percorrere in particolare il sentiero ad anello che fa il giro completo del lago. Adatto a tutti, è molto panoramico e passa anche sopra la diga dove si ha una vista magnifica a 360° (ma attenzione se soffrite di vertigini ). Inoltre una tappa d’obbligo sono le due malghe presenti sulla sponda est e sulla sponda ovest, la Untermaureralm e la Nevesalm, dove circondati dalla bellezza del luogo e dalla gentilezza del personale, potrete gustare prodotti tipici e pranzi meravigliosi.

ENG - If you love nature in its purest state and absolute peace, this is the place for you. As soon as the lake appears in your view, you will be enraptured by the blue and turquoise hues of its waters and feel as if you are in some tropical sea. But you will soon realise that you are in the heart of the mountains when you realise the majesty and immensity of the peaks that surround it, a breathtaking panorama that envelops you from every angle you turn… but the thing that will surprise you most is the absolute peace and silence that you will breathe, a natural medicine for the mind and body.

ITA - Se siete amanti della natura allo stato più puro e della pace assoluta, questo è il posto che fa per voi. Non appena il lago apparirà alla vostra vista, sarete rapiti dalle sfumature blu e turchesi delle sue acque e vi sembrerà di essere in qualche mare tropicale. Ma capirete subito di essere nel cuore delle montagne quando vi renderete conto della maestosità e immensità delle vette che lo circondano, un panorama da togliere il fiato che vi avvolge da ogni angolo verso cui vi girate… ma la cosa che più vi sorprenderà è la pace e il silenzio assoluto che respirerete, una medicina naturale per la mente e per il corpo.

ENG - From a hiking side, the lake and its surroundings are a true paradise. Behind the lake, the three famous mountains of the Zillertal Alps rise majestically and impressively: the Punta Bianca, the Grande Mèsule and the Cima di Campo. A must for hikers is the Neves High Path ( Neveser Höhenweg), which runs above the lake and offers beautiful views of the Aurina Valley mountains. Other popular destinations are the hikes to the Passo Ponte di Ghiaccio Hut ( Edelrauthütte or also Eisbruggjochhütt ), to the Giovanni Porro Hut and to the Gran Pilastro Hut, from where you can reach the summit of the Gran Pilastro (3,510 m).

ITA - Dal punto di vista escursionistico, il lago e i suoi dintorni sono un vero e proprio Paradiso. Maestose e impressionanti si ergono dietro il lago le tre famose montagne delle Alpi della Zillertal: la Punta Bianca, il Grande Mèsule e la Cima di Campo. Un must per gli escursionisti è l’Alta Via di Neves (Neveser Höhenweg), la quale si snoda sopra il lago e che regala bellissimi panorami sulle montagne della Valle Aurina.  Altre mete molto amate sono le escursioni per il Rifugio Passo Ponte di Ghiaccio ( Edelrauthütte o anche Eisbruggjochhütt ), per il Rifugio Giovanni Porro e per il Rifugio Gran Pilastro, da cui si può raggiungere la vetta del Gran Pilastro (3.510 m).
